Tariff income from capital
If capital is worth up to £6,000
it will not make any
difference to the grant payable. Capital above £6,000
will
be treated as if it produced income. Any actual interest received will
be ignored.
Tariff income is calculated on that part of the capital which exceeds
£6,000
only.
For applicants aged less than sixty, each £250
or part
thereof is treated as generating a tariff income of £1
per
week. The tariff income is always an amount in whole pounds, rounded up
where necessary e.g. capital of £7,800
produces a tariff
income of £8
per week.
For applicants aged sixty or more, each £500
or part
thereof gives rise to tariff income of £1
per week.
