Carer's premium

This premium will be awarded where the claimant, or partner, or both, are getting Carer's Allowance, or treated as getting Carer's Allowance, for looking after someone who is, and remains, in receipt of Disability Living Allowance higher or middle Care Component, Personal Independence Payment Daily Living Component, or Attendance Allowance. It is thus possible for a family to receive two such premiums but there is no "couple rate" as with other premiums.

Getting or being treated as getting Carer's Allowance

It will also be possible to qualify where the claimant, or partner, or both, would be in receipt of Carer's Allowance but for the effect of the overlapping benefit rules, and they have made a claim to Carer's Allowance on or after 1st May 1991, and the disabled person that they are caring for remains in receipt of Disability Living Allowance higher or middle Care Component, Personal Independence Payment Daily Living Component, or Attendance Allowance.
