Severe Disablement Allowance
Severe Disablement Allowance (SDA) was abolished for new
claims from 6th April 2001.
However, existing recipients (as at 5th April 2001) of SDA have a
preserved right to continue claiming the benefit - provided they
continue to meet the qualifying conditions. It is always advantageous
for such a person to continue their SDA claim where possible.
Existing recipients are also able to claim or amend dependant
additions in SDA if their circumstances change - for example, if they
acquire a dependent adult or child(ren).
In effect, SDA carries on as before for those with a preserved right
to it.
SDA is counted in full as income for the DFG means-test. However, it
will entitle the household to the disability
premium.
